About the artist

Adam Buick
“Landscapes have inspired artists for generations but for me a landscape has to be felt.”
Adam Buick was inspired by the moon jar form during a visit to the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, as a student. Since then, he has visited Korea to study with master moon jar makers. He is fascinated by the simplicity of form and the creative potential of this traditional vessel. Through his practice, Buick creates a material narrative to convey his love for his home country, Wales. Each moon jar is a unique transcript of his local landscape; he incorporates natural elements from his surroundings such as sand, clay and ground rock when coiling, throwing and glazing to express his personal relationship to the land. This individuality and tension between materials create intense and beautiful pieces, while also poignantly speaking of the human condition and how landscape forms our perception of the world around us.
